A Few Accidents
These images are from my "whoops" folder when I render and I've forgotten to set something up correctly. Or when the displacement map shifts boundaries on objects and it's not apparent until rendering.

Last Few Tweaks
After fixing my displacement maps and getting shadows to work I messed around trying out final gathering.
ABOVE: With final gathering
BELOW: Without
I ended up deciding that final gathering wasn't adding a great deal of realism, so I ended up rendering without it.
Hand-In Extention
These are the files I had prepared for Friday, but with the weekend extention I will redo these to a more satisfactory level.

Snake Development
Initially it was going to be more snake-like with patches of mould; but through texture experimentation I ended up with a worm-like organsim instead. I decided that a worm was an interesting texture in itself and left it without any hair, fur, or mould. It sort've looks slightly fuzzy anyway.
Most of these images are showcasing the texture development and transitions. Trying various settings and placements to avoid seams or obvious glitches.
The worm itself changed quite a lot as i realised my snake texture didn't look like a snake at all.

Stalk Progression
The top of the stalk (left) came up really well but as soon as it's put onto something other than a flat plane, it starts to look different.
These shots show how awesome the texture looks on the top of the stalk, but the problem is how to translate it to the part of the stalk that will be visible.
Here I am trialling the width and shape of the stalk.
Varying degrees of UV manipulations, trying to eliminate the seams and shy away from looking rock-like.

Mushroom Development
After deciding that it would be difficult to get the middle transition to flow correctly, I decided that the organic mess could become a mushroom. This would be a bit more interesting and would help the motion of the organism as it continues to the right.

Storyline Development
I have been trying to decide on a way to get between the materials of rock and snake. I intended to use an organic gloop to transition but I have decided to go with a mushroom stage to help make the animating easier.

Concept Developments
Although I liked my original development more, I have decided to limit my clip and simplify my ending. So the snake stops and blends into the ground rather than spikes protruding from it's head and it lunging at the camera.

Material Transition Trial
This video is just trialling the blending between materials; making sure it works without issue. Along with making sure I know how to export videos from my rendered images etc.

Messing around with Materials
A couple developments of texture made from playing with colour, bump, specular, displacement and reflectivity of the original photos.
I quite liked the jaggedness of the above image.
