Project 1 Proposal draft

I was originally interested in taking horror footage and making it humorous, but the idea of making a scary clip from horror footage seemed a bit pointless. After momentarily considering nature as my theme, I settled on the general topic of circuses, carnivals, fairs, sideshows and clowns. The classification of circus surmises these all rather well.

Clowns are typically happy, jolly, funny and friendly; although some people are terrified of them entirely. I wanted to create iterations portraying how different individuals feel and relate to clowns, circuses and the like.

Scary - Jump Cuts and Altered Speed
(added intensity via jump cuts, slow motion for creepiness, speed for madness)

Happy - Cross Cuts and Dissolves

(sort of a soft montage of entertainment by cutting back to a shot that has progressed forward in time; each time this shot is cut back to)

Sad/Dramatic - Dissolves and Slowed Speed
(softens the scene through transitions and adds emotion through extra viewing time)

Game Mechanics Research part 2

Here are a few game mechanics; most of which are primary game mechanics. One is secondary and at least two are compound game mechanics. These are just drafts that will be tidied up and polished for the hand-in.

Video Archive Browsing and possible concepts

I have started browsing archive.org as I cannot seem to use creative commons for finding videos. I was considering going with Horror; which could make for interesting horror > happy conversions.

However this seemed a little strange so I started looking at Nature; The idea of peaceful, scary and action jump to mind.

After more searching I found a way to take my original idea; by changing it to something like circus, carnival, clowns etc, I have access to clowns which are statistically the most hated creatures. So I can play on this for a horror theme, then spin it around for the happy fun side of carnivals, and I just need a third feel.

Perhaps something more advertisement-like or an even weirder idea like a wanted advert for fugitive clowns. Just some thoughts at this point.

This is an outline of where I will branch out to and to give me some ideas for project 1.

Game Designer Research

One of the most successful gaming franchises, Pokemon took the world by storm and continues to be at the forefront of handheld gaming.
The original concept came from Satoshi Tajiri; "[He] claims that the joining of two Game Boys via a link cable inspired him to create a game which embodied the collection and companionship of his childhood hobby, insect collecting."

However, the most notable game designer / programmer  throughout the games iterations would be Shigeki Morimoto. "[He] is a game designer and programmer (among other various roles such as Pokémon adviser and Pokémon designer), currently working at Game Freak. He has been involved in nearly every main series Pokémon game since Pokémon Red and Green Versions. He is most notable for the creation of the Pokémon Mew, which also happens to be his favorite Pokémon. He also appeared as an NPC in Black, White, Black 2, and White 2."

Shigeki Morimoto with HeartGold and SoulSilver.

The Pokémon game series has held true with it's core game mechanics;

Pokémon collecting (completing the Pokédex)
Turn-based battling (although evolving into single, double, triple and rotation battles)
Ability to customise (Through team of 6, stat training, move selection, level etc.)

MDDN 241 P2B final hand in

Final submission after a frantic last ditch effort to get it all done. Finally can sleep.

Too big to upload the video at 371 MB I guess.

I realise this was a rush job as I had to paint weights again so close to the end, but it does get the story across; if only just.
